EKV & the EKV vision
The Friendship Evangelical Cell Church (EKV) is a young, dynamic cell church in the Alkmaar region. It began about ten years ago with four couples and one cell group. There are now around 75 members and 7 cell groups. We are made up mostly of young families but have a growing number of teens and young adults. EKV is an international church with members from Europe, North America and Asia.
We believe that Jesus Christ is the answer to our deepest needs and desires and that to truly be happy you need to get to know Him. In particular we believe that Jesus Christ is the only One who can free us from sin and the guilt that it creates in our life.
The Friendship Evangelical Cell Church would like to bring people in Alkmaar and the surrounding area into contact with Jesus Christ by starting small groups of believers (cell groups) in every street in Alkmaar. In the future we would also like to start cell groups and services in surrounding towns as well.
We have been a cell church from the very beginning. At that time it was a new phenomenom in the Netherlands. Since that time the concept of cell churches has become well known through a number of cell church and G12 conferences. In short, it means that all the members of our church are a part of a cell group and that the cells come together on Sunday morning for a worship service. At the same time, many of the functions of a church, such as pastoral care, evangelism, fellowship and discipleship, take place in the cell groups.
The Friendship Evangelical Cell Church is not part of a denomination. We are a participant in the Evangelical Alliance. Among other things, this means that we hold to the EA Statement of Faith.
